Ian Ruggles Memorial RaceSince Ian was 10 years old he was an RC enthusiast, starting to race competitively in 1988. He raced sedans and even off road trucks and buggies. His passion however was on-road carpet racing with pancars as his core pursuit. He built his first 1/12th scale care in 1989. He had the privilege to race for Speed Merchant, Calandra Racing Concepts and PowerPush Batteries over the next 27 years.
The Indoor Champs was his favorite event. He planned each year around "The Champs". He was there for 25 consecutive events as a racer and served as announcer for 14 years. During 2010 he was organizer/promoter and credited by many as keeping the event going during a difficult period His leadership and dedication as the organizer concluded after the 2012 event. "The Memorial" represents a living testament to the relationships Ian cultivated and treasured in the RC racing community. This race a place where those he cared about can herald his contribution to the hobby. It also provides a vehicle to remember and carry forward his bounding enthusiasm RC racing and racers..
